PowerProx (6 months Braces)
The most common question patients ask is How can my teeth be straightened in just six months? Powerprox Six Month Braces® uses time tested techniques combined with the latest in orthodontic materials and technologies to move your teeth quickly and safely. Many of the component pieces that make up the Powerprox Six Month Braces® have actually been used in orthodontics for over 60 years. Powerprox Six Month Braces simply puts these pieces together in a new and exciting way to achieve our main goal of giving you the smile you always wanted in the fastest time possible.
One of the key technologies is the use of hi-tech archwires. These wires have what is called shape memory. That means, however, the wire is bent, twisted or deformed by the current improper position of your teeth, the wire will return to the ideal original shape. This allows your teeth to automatically move to the desired location.
Again, the main focus of Powerprox Six Month Braces® is to give you a great smile as quickly as possible, and most of our cases are completed in just 6 months.
Do You Tighten Braces More?
The answer to this question is a resounding NO! Actually, if stronger forces are used to over-tighten braces, it will slow down tooth movement. Lighter forces will move teeth faster than higher forces. There is a shock absorber, called the periodontal ligament or PDL that surrounds each individual tooth. When too much force is applied to the tooth, the PDL becomes bruised and the teeth stop moving. The teeth cannot move again until the bruising has healed. This can take days to weeks to occur. Conversely, by using low forces the teeth can move without bruising the PDL. This means that there is more continuity to the teeth movement through your jaw bone and ultimately faster, safer and more comfortable tooth movement.
Will Powerprox Six Month Braces® Damage My Teeth?
We are often asked if Powerprox Six Month Braces causes any damage to the teeth or gums, and more specifically we are asked “does it cause any root resorption?” The answer quite simply is no. There are many myths surrounding root resorption and it is one of the most misunderstood topics in dentistry. One cause of root resorption is genetics. You are either prone to it or you are not. Root resorption can also depend on the length of time you wear your braces. High force levels can also lead to root resorption. Since most of our cases are completed in a short period of time and we use low forces to move your teeth, it is highly unlikely that you will develop root resorption when you get treated with Powerprox Six Month Braces.
Do I have to Wear Big Metal Braces?
No, you do NOT have to wear metal braces on your teeth. We use clear, nearly invisible, braces which blend seamlessly in with your teeth. This makes them nearly impossible for anyone to see.
With any orthodontic procedure you need to wear a retainer to maintain your final teeth positions. Powerprox Six Month Braces does not use the typical retainer with a large non-aesthetic wire running across the front of the teeth. Rather we use invisible retainers that are moulded precisely to fit your teeth. When you are wearing your retainers, no one will be able to see them. Another popular option is to use a splinted retainer that is bonded behind your teeth.
Do Powerprox Six months Braces Cost More Than Regular Braces?
Actually Powerprox Six Month Braces® are generally less expensive than other tooth straightening methods. Since there are far fewer office visits required when treating you with Powerprox Six Month Braces® , the treatment fee is often lower than traditional braces.
