Grinding and clenching, often during sleep, can wear teeth down and make your jaw, face or head ache. A guard made to fit your teeth helps protect them.
Signs to look out for
- Waking with a sore jaw, face or headache
- Worn, chipped or flattened teeth
- Clicking or pain when you open your mouth
- A partner hearing you grind at night
How we can help
Your dentist checks your teeth, jaw joints and muscles, and talks through what may be causing your symptoms. A custom night guard or splint protects your teeth and can ease strain on the jaw. We may suggest seeing another health professional when that would help.
Snoring
For some people, a custom device worn at night that holds the lower jaw forward can reduce snoring. Because snoring can be a sign of sleep apnoea, we may suggest you see your doctor as well.
